February Foodie Fun at My Muki

February is full of foodie fun — beans, pancakes, sushi treats, and the first signs of spring.

Setsubun (3rd Feb) — out with winter, in with luck! Throw beans, eat ehomaki in silence, face south-southeast, make a wish.

Pancake Day (17th Feb) — okonomiyaki time! Japanese savoury pancakes, hot from the pan. Add pork, prawns, kimchi, cheese — whatever you fancy. Top with sauce, mayo, and bonito flakes that dance in the heat. Grill as you like it.

Ume season — spring's first flavour. Pop a whole umeboshi inside your onigiri, or mix umeshiso furikake through warm rice. Wrap in seaweed, no sticky fingers, straight into the lunchbox. Sour, salty, sorted.
